UL AND CPSC DISCUSS SAFETY TRENDS
Lab accreditation, the effects of the economy on safety, thwarting counterfeits, green products, and furniture flammability were among topics discussed April 7 by UL executives in separate meetings with CPSC Acting Chairman Nancy Nord and her staff and with the staff of Commissioner Thomas Moore.

CPSC URGES FIRMS TO PROVIDE MATERIALS DATA
Companies worried about the content of material used in their products related to limits under the CPSIA should give CPSC data about those materials.

CPSC SETTLES WITH 14 FIRMS OVER DRAWSTRINGS
CPSC April 7 said 14 companies would pay a total of $1.055 million in civil penalties to settle agency allegations that they knowingly failed to report immediately that they sold children’s hooded sweatshirts or jackets with drawstrings at the hoods or necks.

“Inaccurate” is the CPSC response to allegations made by Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) in his request to President Barack Obama to remove Acting Chairman Nancy Nord for “neglect of duty” under section 4(a) of the Consumer Product Safety Act.
