HOOVER TO PAY $750K TO SETTLE SECTION 15 ALLEGATIONS
CPSC January 12 announced that Hoover Company will pay $750,000 to settle allegations that it failed to report fire risks associated with self-propelled upright vacuum cleaners within 24 hours as required by Section 15.

NEXGRILL TO PAY $300K TO SETTLE SECTION 15 ALLEGATIONS
CPSC January 12 announced that Nexgrill Industries will pay $300,000 to settle allegations that it failed to report burn incidents associated with its gas grills within 24 hours as required by Section 15.

CPSC REVIEWS BURNS LINKED TO CHILDREN’S CLOTHING
CPSC January 12 reported that from June 2004 to December 2005 it learned of 253 incidents involving burns associated with clothing ignition.

CPSC UPDATES ELECTROCUTION DATA
There were about 160 electrocution deaths in 2003 associated with consumer products, according to data made public January 9 by CPSC.

ANTI-CO PUSH CONTINUES WITH EPA EFFORT IN NEW ENGLAND

Falls were the most common cause (30%) of unintentional injury deaths in Australia during that nation’s 2003-04 reporting year, according to a report issued January 12 by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Canberra.

U.K. TARGETS SMOKING FIRE REDUCTION
The U.K. Department for Communities and Local Governments January 15 launched a Fire Kills campaign to warn smokers that their homes are 35% more likely to experience a fire than are homes with no smokers.

CALIFORNIA FINDS 2% OF HOMES HAVE OZONE GENERATORS
About 2% of California households (282,000) contain air cleaners that emit ozone by design, according to a report issued January 17 by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
