WORRIES MOUNT OVER CHINESE PRODUCT SAFETY
Concern about the safety of Chinese products has reached the point of CPSC possibly becoming a presidential campaign issue.

HEATING AND TOOLS TOP NON-FIRE CO INCIDENTS
From 2002 to 2004, there was an annual average of 166 unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) deaths associated with non-fire incidents involving products under CPSC jurisdiction, according to an agency report issued August 8.

ASTM F15.62 IS NEW LEAD-IN-VINYL GROUP
Numerous members of ASTM’s F15 committee August 9 voted to seek standards related to lead in vinyl.

TEST LABS WANT CONSISTENT FABRIC TESTING
Members of the testing lab industry, including Intertek, SGS and STR, August 14 told CPSC staff that they would like to see testing clarifications from the agency that result in more consistent fabric flammability testing across test labs.

EU RAPEX REPORTS CONTINUE RECORD PACE
The 770 RAPEX reports received by the EU from January through July represent the a 50% increase over the same period in 2006, according to a report issued August 10 by EU Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General (DG-Sanco).
