Marietta S. Robinson is President Barack Obamas nominee for CPSC commissioner, the White House announced January 23. Robinson currently is with the Law Offices of Marietta S. Robinson and President of the International Society of Barristers. She formerly was a trustee for the Dalkon Shield Trust and, according to her LinkedIn page, an associate, elected into partnership with Dickinson Wright PLLC. She holds a 1978 law degree from UCLA.
According to her biography posted on the webpage of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education:
Marietta S. Robinson practices in the area of personal injury law. She is listed in "The Best Lawyers in America," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who of American Women," and "Who's Who in American Law" and was selected as one of ten lawyers of the year in 2000 by "Michigan Lawyers Weekly." She is the only woman governor of the International Society of Barristers, is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation, and is an associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Ms. Robinson served eight years as a federally appointed trustee of the Dalkon Shield Claimants Trust, was appointed by Governor James Blanchard to the State of Michigan Building Authority, and served in the Representative Assembly of the State Bar of Michigan. She has taught as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Ms. Robinson taught for many years in the annual University of Virginia and University of Michigan Trial Advocacy Institutes and chaired the Federal Bar Trial Advocacy Program. She has also taught numerous continuing legal education courses and has published many legal articles."
If approved by the Senate, Robinson would replace former commissioner Thomas Moore, who left CPSC last October after a 16 year tenure (PSL, 10/24/11, p. 1).
