Children’s Gasoline Fatalities Rise Despite Law
Three years after implementing the Children's Gasoline Burn Prevention Act (CGBPA), CPSC reports that the number of deaths associated with fires was higher in 2009-2011 than in the three years prior (2006-2008) or in the three years before that (2003-2005). However, the report, made available August 14, noted that there were insufficient data to determine if the increased incidents in 2009 to 2011 involved gas containers that complied with child-resistant requirements mandated under CGBPA.
