CPSC Staff Presents NPR to ‘Essentially’ Ban Magnet Sets
CPSC staff August 9 briefed commissioners on a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPR) to require individual magnets to have a flux index of less than 50 if they are in sets with magnets that fit in the small-parts cylinder. The flux index would be tested under ASTM F963-11, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety, which specifies the same measurement. The flux indexes of magnet sets targeted by the NPR are typically in the range of 400 to 600.
