About 29% of EU Fakes Prompt Safety Worries


In 2011, 28.6% of the 115 million articles detained by EU Customs under suspicion of violating intellectual property rights (IPR) were daily use products with health and safety concerns, according to a recent report from the European Commission. This figure represents an almost 50% increase in similar product detentions in 2010 (14.5%). The report cites a rise in medicine fakes as the reason.
