California Goes After Jewelry Violations


California July 17 filed a complaint in Los Angeles superior court against 16 companies over allegations of supplying jewelry that violates the state’s toxic content laws. The suit involves the state attorney general office, Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Center for Environmental Health (CEH). The suit alleges that the 16 companies supplied or directly sold to consumers units with high lead. Six defendants face Proposition 65 action based on allegedly false “lead free” labeling.
