KID Reports on Magnets; Gillibrand Seeks Ban


Kids in Danger (KID) June 20 called on CPSC to determine if high powered magnets sold as amusement devices for teens and adults are correctly age graded. It linked the request to its analysis of CPSC data that it said show the average age of those involved in incidents is 7 and the median is 10. KID noted that a “typical use pattern” associated with ingestion or inhalation incidents is placing magnets on noses or cheeks to mimic piercings.
