Phthalates Ban Not Justified ECHA Panel Finds
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) June 15 said its risk assessment committee (RAC) could not find data to support a proposed ban of four phthalates from certain products. The move was proposed by Denmark last year (PSL, 10/3/11, p. 3), but the panel determined that existing regulatory measures were sufficient to limit exposure.
ECHA pointed to data from its Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis that it said show steady decline in use of the chemicals in the past decade, and it wrote:
